[Solved] I4 or v6 Toyota Highlander

Hi Scotty

I am considering the Toyota Highlander to replace my totaled Hyundai Elantra.
Want a bigger vehicle so I don’t get crush by semi again.

Should I get the earlier year 4 cylinder (2004) 108k miles Highlander or the later year 3.5 V6 (2008) 115k miles?

You mentioned not to get the 2AZ-FE i4 engine.

Is it true that a V6 hauling a heavy Highlander is not much less efficient than a I4 hauling the same vehicle?

Thank you

T

I'd go V6. It isn't that bad on gas compared to the I4 and will help move the SUV better without straining too hard.

I would choose the V6 engine for Highlander. It is a heavy SUV, i4 is a bit underpowered.

I would go for the V6. On a car that size, a V6 is appropriate - it will be less strained so it will last longer. Yes, it will get you slightly worse gas mileage but it's not much of a difference (maybe 2 mpg). That 3.5L V6 is very smooth and is known for its durability.

I know the i4 is less powerful. I’m basing my decision on gas mileage and the longevity of the engine.
