If the ignition switch is bad and it won't turn over, will I still have dash lights when it is in the on position on my 2002 Pontiac montana. I turn the ignition switch to the on position and there is dash lights but when I turn it to the start position there is nothing, not even a click. I  checked all fuses and relays and connections and they are all good.

It could be a bad starter. Check the connection at the starter cable and the voltage at the starter solenoid wire. If you're getting around 12 volts to the solenoid (Key in Start position) I'd suspect a bad starter/solenoid. If no voltage maybe the Park/Neutral switch

New switch.

I'm trying to figure out why my ignition switch went bad when all I did was change the air filter. I can turn my ignition switch to the on position and all the dash lights come on and short out the starter with a screwdriver and it cranks over but doesn't fire. If the ignition switch is bad will the fuel pump not work and also will there be no spark to the spark plugs.
