Scotty,

I want to buy a used Highlander for my mom. Everything is made in the US now and can't really find a Japanese one.

{black}:idontknow:

What kind of history do you know for the Highlander made here? 2015 and newer.

{black}:eat:

I'm in Florida and I'm buying from dealer.

Regards,

Silvano

They are excellent cars, even made in USA.

I would avoid the 2015 model year because of the excessive amount of cosmetic and mechanic issues that was reported. The 2016 and newer are very reliable in typical Toyota fashion. I saw a 2018 the other day on craigslist and it had 200k miles on it, driving in San Francisco. Always have an independent mechanic check it out to make sure the car is in good cosmetic and mechanical shape.

What about a 2012 Highlander?

In the last 10 or so years, the model years with the most complaints are 2008, 2015, 2010, and 2012. 2012 would not be a year which you would regret buying but I found a lot more complaints than the 2013 model year. Check out the link I gave. If you could find a 2013, I would go with that. Manufacturers often do refreshes which could impact the dependability of a certain model year. A very common issue with the 2012 Highlander is "CAR MAKES CLUNKING NOISE WHEN TURNING" which on average costed owners $570 to repair. A common issue on all model years of this generation is with the rear liftgate not opening or thinking it is open or vise versa all in all the rear hatch is just a mess but besides that mechanically powertrain wise it seems like a reliable SUV. I have no experience personally but this is from basic research. If Scotty would respond to the question: "Should I buy a 2012 highlander" he would say "definetly those are excellent cars just have a mechanic make sure it is in good shape and it could be a great car!"

Have a look for yourself and decide the reliability:
