Apparently the new Infiniti SUVs will be using ZF transmissions instead of their old Jatcos. Would this make them worth buying?
Ok here is the thing. I like the new 2022 Infiniti Qx60 styling and it's much nicer than the old Qx60 which was outdated as hell and used a CVT, but I would wait to see how it holds up. Zf makes great transmissions and the ZF 9 speed while some people think the transmission is at fault, it's actually not and I would say that in terms of smoothness its on par with the Aisin 8 speed auto which is what Toyota uses and they had their initial issues but they have been ironing them out. Honda, FCA, and Landrover/Jaguar use this transmission for their vehicles, and it comes down to the software and the programming of the transmission and Honda and FCA as far as I know haven't been able to nail it and they had quite a lot of transmission troubles, now ZF 9 speeds in the Land rovers seemed fine it was just the rest of the car that was not fine. However, the 2022 Pathfinder which is the lower-end version of the Infiniti Qx60 also has the same powertrain, but Nissan did a good job with programming and it's a smooth transmission for the most part, so I would expect the same to be for the Qx60. Still, it's a new transmission, so wait and see how it holds up, but so far consumers that bought the 2022 pathfinder seem to like the changes that Nissan/Infiniti made with their 3 row midsize SUVs. If u really want one, just lease it.
Probably not. ZF does make good transmissions but I would wait. I want to see what happens first.
Depends on which transmissions we are talking about. Their 8-speed automatic transmissions used in RWD applications is terrific.
The ZF 9 speed for FWD cars. I heard Nissan is still going to use the jatco 7speed automatic (non-cvt) for their regular rwd cars and then go to a 9 speed automatic from Mercedes Benz.
yeah, that is true, the interesting about the RWD-based 9-speed auto that Nissan uses in the Frontier, Titan, and new Z is that it's designed by Mercedes (who design pretty good transmissions) and built in the Jatco factory.
The jury is still out on this one.
