I purchased a 3020 RS ODB reader. I was testing on a rental vehicle and I got 0 DTC codes does that mean this car is reasonable.

Thanks

First off, at that price point (under $100) it’s going to be a basic scan tool and therefore not capable of scanning every last computer system onboard.  So you won’t be getting the full benefit of scanning a car.

.

Second, even if you had a full-system scan tool and no codes came up, it doesn’t mean the car is in the clear.  Some of the data on the scan tool can indicate issues but still be within the parameter limits (before a code is flagged).  For example, the short term/long term fuel trims can be 20% and a code still not thrown, but clearly there is an issue.

.

You need to also fully inspect the whole car including the underside/undercarriage and test drive it at different speeds.   After all that, then you will have a better idea if the vehicle is good or not.

What car? What does "reasonable" mean?

I don't understand what you're asking.

Are you trying to buy the rental car? You want to know if the scan tools is good, or what?
