I just came from my local Honda dealer where I had my 2020 Hybrid CRV (41,000 miles) serviced. The service writer recommended some sort of intake cleaning service were they dump a can of some kind of cleaner that’s supposed to clean the intake valves and prevent mpg degradation. I’m thinking this is just a way to separate me from my money. Is this a legitimate service?

You are correct. Service writers earn commissions. Turn down any "service" not specified by the manufacturer.
