Scotty if I install a 2000 watt inverter in the car and need to use it for extended hours can I leave my car on, in idle, for the extended time I use it? Will/can I cause damage to my car in idle for that long?

Extended hours? Are we talking 2 or 48 or more. Most car engines will do quite a bit of idling without a lot of wear (apparently new Hemis are not included).
BUT - if this was to be a regular thing, compare the cost of a small generator to the cost of an engine rebuild (and has for what is probably 100hp plus engine).
