Is bmw a reliable car

Scott,

We are looking at a 2008 BMW 335i, v6 turbo with 94k miles for my 18 yr old daughter.  Asking $10k, is that a reliable car?  Any major maintenance due at 100k miles?  Should we buy it?  Thanks in advance.

Don't buy it. Any modern BMW after 100k miles is a foreshadow of an endless money pit.

Please consider something slower.

v6 turbo

I'm going to assume you meant the inline 6 turbo.

The main concern with this is that they burn tons of oil, and have the rat's nest called VANOS.

It's not a cheap car to maintain - it can get 'real expensive real fast'.

Should we buy it?

I would not, sounds like a deathtrap for an inexperienced driver.

These also can cost a fortune to fix, depends mostly on luck with these piles of junk.

EDIT: BMW did offer the “Drivelogic” transmission on these, a wet dual clutch - it’s a pile of trash, to be avoided!

The other transmission a 6 speed auto is decent.

Reliable, yes. Expensive to maintain, yes. If you don’t maintain it, it won’t be reliable. It’s still a money pit.
