I am very interested in buying my first BMW. I couldn't see any posts about the newer F40 1 series so thought I'd post a question about it here.
I know these costs more to run than normal cars but I absolutely loved driving this car on a test drive. I am looking at a 2021 BMW 1 series M sport that has the live cockpit professional and auto transmission. It's sitting at just under £25k so within my budget. Doesn't have any other optional extras. 2 services done in 18k miles by BMW themselves including 2 oil changes/service. Previous owner was on finance and hasn't been in an accident and condition of their fiance agreement was sticking to BMW approved service intervals. Brake pads were replaced after 16k miles which seems low but is obviously dependent on driving style. Should I be concerned about this? Other than that no other issues reported about the vehicle. I couldn't see much on the internet about F40 long term reliabilities. They came out a few years ago now so hoping there is a bit of mid to long term data on them. I know Toyota maybe more reliable but this car is a blast to drive. I do want to check the vehicle isn't a piece of junk though. Any experience anybody has with these cars I should know about or checks I should be doing when before I buy it? I intent to keep it for as long as possible as it's not cheap so want it to last. Prepared to take extra care.
Thanks!

Then you better have pretty deep pockets. For the first 100k miles, it might be fine, after that, they will nickel and dime you to death. They're rich men's cars, and they know it. You would be much better off buying a Lexus sedan. Everything that's able to be made plastic, they made plastic, the engine included. As BMWs age, plastic becomes brittle, and they become absolutely halitus to work on.
As Scotty calls them "endless money pits". If you really want one lease one and get it out of your system once the lease is over.
What are your other fun options for that kind of money?
A 1 series isn’t even a real BMW..
