Hello everyone. I have a 1999 Lincoln Town car with 93,000 miles on it that doesn’t get driven very much. Hardly at all. I’ve been going out almost every day and starting the engine and running it for a little while to charge the battery and and because I know that just sitting is bad on a car. This car will be put back into regular use again in a few months, but it hasn’t been driven regularly for several years. My question is, is idling the car bad for it, or is it better than letting it sit? Since this will become my main means of transportation in a while I want it to last as long as possible. Thanks for any help you can give me.
Idling is better than nothing. (for details, use the search box as this has been asked dozens of time already).
Sitting is definitely the worst.
Idling for a long time is not the best idea. If possible you should drive the vehicle every 1 to 2 weeks.
You better drive the car every week or so to avoid problems. Cars are not designed to sit.
Driving Regularly > Driving Once a Week > Idling a car > Letting a car sit >>> Driving like a mad man.
