I have a 2021 Honda Accord 1.5 turbo and a cvt, been worried about this engine and transmission so I started looking for other option and at the same time want something bigger for the family, I have 2 kids and didn’t want something really big so this CX-9 is perfect for my needs. The only problem I see is that these have a 2.5 Turbo 4 cylinder automatic engine and I was wondering if it could be at least more reliable than the one on my Honda. Thank you.
Its very reliable so far. The Mazda 2.5T has been used in the Cx9 since 2016 I believe. Its also used in the CX5 and the Mazda 3 hatchback and perhaps other models as well.
We have a 2018 CX-9 with 77,000 and just found out that the motor is trash. Problem with the turbocharger/engine block and heads. Just an $11,000 fix. I'd steer clear of turbocharged Mazdas if I were you. Seems to be a common problem among those motors.
I have not heard of any issues, but realize a turbo engine will never last aslong as a naturally aspirated one.
What issue do cx9 had? I just bought a 2022 carbon edition 😦
