First model year of that generation. General rule of thumb is wait a year or so for the bugs to be worked out.

I love my 21 WRX. Basic, barebones and a fantastic driving experience for a touch over 30k.

That car has a new engine (FA24). That's a 2.4L boxer, the previous gen has the FA20, 2.0L boxer. They make near identical power numbers, but the 2.4 does this with less boost (I think 12 vs 16 psi) so that may help with longevity since it'll be operating under lower pressures. Also opens the door for potentially more tuning options down the road too.

I dont know the transmission or drivetrain specs exactly, but I'm sure they're using their tried and true 6 speed manual and symmetrical AWD system.

I've seen good things coming from Subaru (why I bought one). Its probably safe buying that car even though its the first year of a new gen. They seem to take pride in the WRX's since they know people want to seriously drive them. If youre itching for it now understand the risk that its its first year. If you can wait till the 23's come out that's a better option.

P.S. ONLY get a manual. Do not get a CVT. Less reliable, and kills the driving experience big time. If you cant drive stick, buy a cheap honda in the meantime and learn on that.

worth buying?

Well, you didn't give much context.

If you want a cheap but powerful car, sure 271 horsepower for under $30,000 with a manual - decent value.

Better value than the Corolla APEX's 169 hp or the Civic 1.5's 180hp...

If you're looking for a car to last 150k miles or more, look elsewhere - 270 horses out of a 2.4L is just too much.

Subaru has been having issue with that 2.4 engine, especially on the Ascent.

(it's still undetermined if that's isolated cases or if this is just bad design)

(FOR EXAMPLE:  https://www.nhtsa.gov/vehicle/2019/SUBARU/ASCENT under complaints>engine, there are some complaints about poor operation and blue smoke - should not be happening on a new car. not the kind of complaints you'd find on a Corolla, all of the "engine" complaints on those are actually transmission issues wrongfully put into that category.)
