As in engine oil,,,,if it has the latest SN label and synthetic,,, it just as good as the name brands....like Amazon and Walmart oil is just as good as name brands,,,,for less money
It is similar to engine oil. Find out what type of antifreeze does Honda recommend, For example, if it recommends HOAT, buy any brand with that type. I prefer to stick with well known manufacturers and stay away from Walmart or AmazonBasics brands, although this is just my opinion.
Agreed. You don’t have to buy the Honda branded coolant (I can’t imagine they make it themselves anyway). But don’t use “universal” coolant - if you don’t use the correct type, you will have to replace it at shorter intervals to avoid corrosion, negating any cost savings.
Sure, … Prestone Long life - all makes, as one example.
That’s all I use: 50/50 concentrate/distilled water. It works, … I check it every fall with a hydrometer for strength and multi-meter for contamination (voltage), … and change it every 5 to 6 years just to be safe.
F.S.
Coolant is cheap compared to an engine.
I always recommend my customers use whatever fluids are recommended by the manufacturer. I myself stick to big name brands and do not cheap out on Wal Mart junk. I live in Texas. Scotty or anyone else can tell you it gets HOT down here in the summer. Having good coolant is a must. Like I said, cheap insurance. Besides, Honda coolant is good for 7 years/100k miles so it's not like you are changing it out every oil change.
