😱My 2000 S Type Jaguar, 3.0 115k mi..recently bought..no service records..looks great inside hood. 8 months all great..filled up with Walmart Premium gas..nobody had premium..drove home.

3 days later, got 4 blocks car cut off. Starts then dies...towed home. Now what .water in gas? Debris in gas? fuel filter/fuel pump? No engine light on. Battery lights up everything. Fuel pressure check? Very limited $$ retired nurse/ recently disabled. I need gas tested( can't syphon due to insane gas tank geography) so they need to open fuel line to test gas. Can driving on crappy gas cause damage?.. only went 10miles total ..Could fuel filter frig up so fast, no warning?

Car was running perfectly. No leaks, hoses, belts all fairly new. Tired of rip off mechanics in NC. Few know Jags.. help please.

I would start by checking the fuel pressure. If the fuel filter has never been replaced it's way past due.

A clogged fuel filter or bad fuel pump could definitely cause that, but there are a lot of potential issues and bad gas while possible is probably the least likely. (A lot of other people buying gas there would be having the same problems.) There may be no check engine light but there still could be stored codes that would shed light on the problem. The shop really should be looking at the fuel filter, fuel pressure from the pump, checking for codes, and maybe using some starting fluid to determine if there is spark present before tearing the fuel system apart.  (Where did you take it? Hopefully not a dealer or chain shop.)

Unfortunately a 22-year-old Jaguar is a poor choice for someone living on a limited income. Really your best bet would be to sell it off once it's running again and replace it with something less likely to eat you out of house and home.

Definitely sounds like a blocked fuel filter.  You are just at the beginning of the major problems you are going to have with this car.  Good luck.
