Jaguar XJR X350 as my first car?

Hey there,

I am now a freshman in college looking for something that’s going to last me these next few years. I fell in luv with the jaguar xjr x350 and was wondering how reliable it actually is. I’ve heard good things but am still not too sure. I was also wondering if you could fill me in on the s-series from then because I know even less about that. Anyways, I would like something reliable enough to last me through until I get my master’s degree and the alternative I’ve picked out is a 2013 Honda Accord. I know the accord will save me money with the gas mileage and insurance alone but I just don’t want to be driving the same thing as everybody else. Also, I’m assuming the later years like 2004-08 would be the xjr to go for correct? Thanks!

Sounds like you got a good handle on it actually, you just need to weigh cost of ownership to coolness cause the Jag will cost you over the next 5-6 years.  How much more?  I'd estimate 1-2 k a year... lot of variables here tho. Unless European?

The Accord will last you 10 times the Jaguar and will cost you a fraction of the annual maintenance most probably.

as you said the Jaguar is more unique, elegant and luxurious, if its a low mileage car, well kept and maintained you might love it even more, keep in mind Jaguars are not known for their reliability.

and yes always take the later models of a car generation since most of the problems in the first ones would be fixed from the manufacturer.

if you want something reliable and heap to maintain, go for Honda or Toyota. There are lots of models that you can choose and not everybody has. For example you can choose toyota solara, it is basically a Camry coupe. Very reliable.

Btw, run from Jaguars if you plan to pay for the costs not your dad.

God luck.

Don't buy a Jag as a reliable car. The cost two arms and a leg to repair and they often need repairs. Buy a Toyota or older Lexus. You will be so much happier in the long run!

All true above. My best friend is president of jag club of sw Florida. I have owned several but I know how to fix most issues. He admits they are not good daily drives. Wait until you start making big bucks they lease one. They have been thru several holding companies, ford did ok, nice looking and driving, but u are spoiled with Honda, it's crappy to sit at repair shop waiting to get fixed.
