The car is a 1999 Jaguar XK8 with about 60,000 miles. And the car had sat for a year, we tried to start it but the battery was dead and wouldn't charge, so we got a new one. At first I hooked up the battery backwards, then got it right and the car started. Since the car started, I started testing all its features and absolutely everything was working. I then go inside, since it hasn't run in a year and needs to run I just left it. I come back out and absolutely nothing works. All I have is 2 red lights on the gages in the dash. So we charge the battery and hook it back up since the battery had died. But nothing happened, so we bought a new battery, and the same thing. Nothing but those 2 red lights in the dash gages. So we replace the high voltage fuses or the 1st fuses the battery meets before the wiring harness. We charge the battery and fire it up but this time it was working, only smoke was coming up from the passenger side. Underneath the car. So I shut it off, took the battery out and it has sat since then. Which was about 6 months ago. If someone could please help I haven't been able to find anything about where to even start. The car was bought from a local euro dealer with nothing wrong, and does have an auto transmission. In which all XK8's had.
Check your alternator output. It's probably not charging at all.
