Scotty,
I live on a small island in the Caribbean.
I have a 2005 Toyota Harrier with the 1Mz-fe engine, 110,000 Km.
Engine developed a misfire on the back cylinders. I replaced all the coils, plugs and injectors with Toyota oem parts. This did not fixed the misfire. I then tested three of each part that I removed and installed on the back cylinders. Found one bad coil and injector. Looks like i got a bad batch of Toyota parts. Put every thing back together and engine running smooth.
I am now hearing a rattling coming from the catalytic converter. Removed the exhaust and found a few pieces of honeycomb loose. Cleaned out the loose pieces and everything is now ok.
Since I have to import all the parts from overseas, it took me four weeks to sort out.
I have a question; why has Toyota fit the engine so close to the fire wall. With just a few inches clearance, I would be able to reach the back cylinders to test the coils and injectors and even change spark plugs without having to remove the entire intake system.
Sometimes compromises need to be made in order to fit the engine in a small space. Sometimes engineers build it to build it, not necessarily for easy maintenance.
