Hey everyone! Love Scotty’s videos and straight talk. My son and I need help with his 1996 Jeep Cherokee 2wd, auto, 4.0.
Jeep wouldn’t stay running, had to gas/brake to get it home. Threw codes for misfire on #2 and #3 and IAC valve. Changed plugs & wires - Champion plugs, Auto Zone wires. Also changed IAC valve with new, not reman, from O’Reilly.
Drove it about 50 miles. CEL starts flashing, throws codes for misfires on every cylinder but no discernible misfire. Tried to drive it to the garage when it went BOOM. Cylinder 5 blew the core of the spark plug out of the motor, leaving the outer casing still threaded into the head.
what on earth might’ve caused that? We got the spark plug case out, put in a new plug, put in a new IAC valve. No CEL but still won’t stay running. Any thoughts?
I have pics of the spark plug but I don’t see where to attach them
Thank you!
Defective spark plug. At least you know you have good compression in number 5. Check your injectors, fuel filter and fuel pump pressure.
Sounds like a defective spark plug. As far as posting pics, perhaps you missed item #8 when you read the "Read this first" section of the site:
https://carkiller.com/scottykilmer/qa/read-this-first/
measure your fuel pressure
Thanks Doc Appreciate the feedback
Chuck, I did read that post, smart ass. But I don’t know what #8 means.
Good for you @chucktobias!
