Jiffy Lube Oil Change

Are places like "JIFFY LUBE" that change your oil through sucking it out through the dipstick any good as to a place where they drain it through the bottom drain plug?

  1. That just seems lazy to me.  I would think it is better to change the traditional way.

They suck it out because many people today do NOT know have to properly loosen or thread/tighten a bolt. Draining will get probably 99%. Sucking proabably 95%

In general I would avoid these chain shops for doing any work on my car. Either do it yourself or if not then have a trusted independent mechanic do it for you.

Never set foot in a chain lube shop. Unless you like brain dead hacks destroying your car.

I once had a free oil change coupon so I figured "$20 saved, cool".

That was the first & last time that ever happened. The brainlet came into the waiting room asking me where the oil goes.

WHAT?!?

Not that it's a task to figure out on any vehicle but it was an 87 Camaro with a 350, it doesn't get much easier. How does one get a job in a shop when he can't add oil to an engine?

The filter also wasn't changed & the wrong weight was added so I immediately went home & did the job right. Pretty sure I hucked the used oil & filter at the shop later that night😄 Either way it made it back there.

One thing I don't understand is the suction, it's leaving so much crud in the engine over time that would otherwise make its way out via the drain.
