E270 CDI Harmonic Balancer repair

Hi Scotty, thanks for your blog - enjoy it very much.

I just want to know if you would recommend welding and balancing the " Harmonic Balancer Crankshaft Pulley" on a Merc E270 CDI ?  The rubber between the two steel pulley parts is breaking up. Here in Sa it costs about 1000 Pounds + importing it, repairing it the other way will cost me about 250 Pounds.

Hello,

I would not weld the crankshaft pulley Harmonic Balancer,

This could cause major damage to the engine,
