I own a 2016 Subaru crosstrek with 70k miles on it. The key will get randomly stuck in the ignition and sometimes won’t come out until numerous attempts. Usually if I put it in reverse or drive and back in park again it will then come out. It’s just annoying to have to start it up again when the key won’t come out. Seems to be a common issue with Subaru and I contacted a local dealer who wanted $400+ to do the work. Any tips?
Hopefully you have more than one key try the other key and spray WD-40 in the lock if that doesn't work it's probably going to need a new lock assembly where the key goes in
Get some Lock*Eeze and liberally spray it in the lock. It is powered graphite in liquid form. It may do the trick.
This is a common problem on late-model Subarus that have keys. A friend went through this with a 2017 Outback, the shift interlock has failed and to fix it the entire shifter mechanism has to be replaced. (I'm surprised this would "only" cost $400. In the case of my friend their extended warranty covered it.)
