In May of 2019, I purchased a used 2018 Odyssey EX-L Navi with approximately 30,000kms (18,000 miles). It has the 3.5L V6 engine which has been around for a long time. The engine has a knock in the lower end. I didn't notice the knock until after taking delivery of the vehicle. It happens at about 900 to 1500rpm, under light acceleration after the engine has reached operating temperature and is most noticeable when going up a slight incline. It can be reproduced by holding the brake (or parking brake) and pressing lightly on the accelerator. I immediately made an appointment with the Honda dealer. Long story short, they confirmed there was a knock in the lower end of the engine and were willing to fix it, however Honda Canada told them not to do anything to the engine. The (Honda Canada) claimed there was a "fix" coming soon. That was on June 6 2019 and when I last checked with the Honda dealer service department, there is still no fix. I took the van to another Honda dealer and the Service Department there tried to tell me the noise was the direct fuel injection. I questioned them on the diagnosis and eventually the Honda mechanic said "I don't know what's causing it, but it's normal and they all do it".
There is a very lengthy thread on an Odyssey forum regarding the knock and the dead end that a lot of Odyssey owners had come to when trying to get it fixed. If you are interested, their is a link to a recording of the knock in Post #578. https://www.odyclub.com/threads/rattle-noise-on-acceleration-revisited.347853/
For whatever reason, Honda (U.S. and Canada) appears to be dragging their feet on providing a fix for this very annoying problem which has to be damaging our engines.
Have you heard of this problem? Do you have any suggestions what we might do?
Thanks,
gsba
Yes I have and the engine noise does come from the engine they basically don't want to stand behind the wrong products which is typical took them years to recall the bad automatic transmission on the Odyssey vans and now they have engine.big reason I tell people never to buy a Honda Odyssey van but you have it so keep complaining to them and pray they fix it you have paperwork showing your problems if engine does go out you could always Sue Honda if they refuse to replace it then
