They still offer new Land Cruisers and FJ Cruisers in UAE. I don't need these cars for any specific purpose like off road or anything. I just like having a new one of either one of these two. Is there either one that would be a better buy as far as reliability and longitivtiy? As for the land cruiser they have the V8, 4.0L V6, and 3.5L twin turbo.
The Land Cruiser and FJ Cruiser are practically the same in terms of reliability and longevity, not to mention platform. Get the one that you like better.
Get the Land Cruiser. Both naturally aspirated engines are great but in the long run, the V8 would be more costly in terms of maintenance. Stay away from twin turbo V6 if you want to keep the car for a long time.
Land Cruisers are everywhere over here... Locals drive the hell out of em. Personally I love the 2 door Patrols.
You can't go wrong with a LC over here. Parts are readily available, and there are hundreds of mechanic shops in Abu Dhabi, Dubai, and Sharjah. I see a few FJ's running around here, but I think they can tip over too much, you know they don't have the best center of gravity. But I will say if you try to buy one.... they are expensive. Even the early ones.
As long as you can afford the premium gas and maintain your vehicle yearly, and I mean yearly. You won't go wrong. Batteries and tires don't seem to last long here and the summer climate is pretty devastating to things with wheels. Make sure whatever you get has good working a/c. You're gonna need it. Good luck!
Bon
Thanks for the thoughts. The price of the car and gas etc. is not an issue at all. And yeah I know it's super hot there hence the good working A/C; I've been there a lot but just not having stayed there for long term to purchase a car.
Ah ok, good. Are you staying in AD or Dubai? Every Emirate has own set of car rules, but it's pretty simple. Get your UAE drivers' license (You will have to if you get a residence ID) and then when you find the car you want (show room or personal) I would stay with a personal seller.... the dealers will rip you off big time. Dubizzle.com has plenty of used car sales ads... I used this when I bought both of my 300zx cars over here. Buying from a personal seller is the way to go. Once you do that, you can get your car inspected, insured, and registered in that order. Pretty simple. They even have little vending machines now that prints out your registration card in just a few minutes. Its pretty sweet. Good luck on your buy and welcome back to the Emirates!
Thanks for the information. Apparently dealerships all over the world are stealerships then. I'll definitely look at used ones and the website you mentioned. I am planning on staying in Dubai.
If you can swing the purchase price and fuel economy, go with the Land Cruiser w/ naturally aspirated V8. Besides longevity and reliability, it’s also probably the last of its kind and additionally should have good re-sale value (if you care about those things).
You cannot import them
I don't want to import them. I'll be buying and driving it there.
Land Cruiser of course. The FJ is kind of a LC wannabe for city folks.
Is there a particular version of the land cruiser you would suggest? Should I stick to the V8 or would the V6 or twin turbo be good too?
it depends if you want power or fuel economy
Gas prices aren't high there like in the U.S. so fuel economy is not a concern for me at all.
Have you ever been in a FJ cruiser?
They have horribly small rear seating. The cabin is overall small and cramped feeling to me.
Land cruiser is a family car, the things are roomy.
I would never buy a FJ if I ever planned to have more than 2 people in the car.
Both are reliable and last a long time.
Yes I have been in one and I own one here in the U.S. but since I get the option of both the new land cruiser and the new FJ cruiser there I was wondering which one of them would be a better. But I appreciate your thoughts on it.
Definitely go Land Cruiser. They can run and run and run with that NA V8. The Land Cruiser was pretty much built to tackle those beautiful deserts in UAE.
