  • Hi Scotty,
  • I bought a 2016 Ford Escape 2.0 4 cylinder ecoboost SE.
  • I certainly enjoy the ride
  • However, recently I popped a P301 code on my OBD II scanner.
  • Replaced coils, plugs, changed oil, new battery, air filter and cleaned MAF.
  • That was the easy part...
  • I'm losing coolant slowly however. No trace on motor or ground below.
  • Sometimes when I start it in the morning, she'll fire up then bog down some.  However it doesn't go out.
  • I do get a quick blast of white smoke, I do smell a sweet smell like coolant from the tailpipe.  Doesn't happen all the time, but randomly.
  • My meeanic  thinks head gasket is starting g to fail, I agree.
  • However, I'd love your opinion.
  • Thanks and I do enjoy your show.

Check your spark plugs, at least one will look "steam cleaned" if coolant is leaking into combustion chambers. You can also use a kit that tests for exhaust gases in the coolant.

Here's an easy way to test your head gasket. You can also do a cooling system pressure test with a pressure tester.
