ey scotty, I have a 2004 GMC Yukon 5.3L Flex Fuel with auto Trans 193,000 . I was told my rear main seal is leaking ,It goes through a quart of oil in about 2,000 miles. I keep the oil toped off and never let it get more than a 1/2 quart low. I did some research and found that its not actually the rear main seal, from 1999 to 2006 bad casting in the block , its pitted and the rear main seal is able to seal for the length of the warranty and wont start leaking till about 160,000 miles. I've tried rear main sealer , it seams to have slowed the leak down. It will be about 1,300 to replace the seal.

My questions should I replace the rear main seal know or drive it the way it is and live with and repair it if and when the leak gets really bad. Could there be any damage done by not fixing it now.

THank you for your help

Heck keep driving it and if you haven't tried the at-205 resealer use that next

I would drive it until it dies. A Chevy at 200,000 miles does not have much life left in it and there isnt a good reason to keep dumping money into it at the age. A quart every 2000 miles is a medium sized leak in my opinion but its manageable. Get what you can out of it and save up for lower mileage vehicle.
