Thinking about buying a used Lexus GS 200t, but it's powered by a 4 cylinder turbo. Is this particular engine more reliable as it ages compared to other turbocharged 4 cylinder's?
Which model year?
2016 or 17
What do you compared with? Other manufacturers? Yes, it is better than the others but not reliable as NA engines.
The jury is still out on the longevity of the Toyota/Lexus turbocharged engines, so if possible I would hold off on buying. At least that one has both port and direct injection so it is not susceptible to carbon buildup on the back of the intake valves unlike a lot of other turbo GDI engines (that only have direct injection). But, if you had a choice And the budget I would look at the NA version of the GS (such as the GS350).
I would prefer the 350. Stumbled into the 200t when researching, and opinions were gushing...almost too much.
Thanks. Eye on the 350, then.
@twinbotxenu in fact I will be putting my money where my mouth is and getting a GS350 F-sport (2017 or 2018 MY) sometime this year (God willing). It definitely has my vote! 🙂
I would avoid it myself until the powerplant gets a more lengthy track record.
