Scotty, I thought newer might be better for a first car. So, I saw a 2013 lexus gs350 f sport in pearl white with only 85k miles for $14k. It was $60k brand new so it's 75% off. Are these 2013 and up model gs350 models good cars for teens and are they reliable with your experience working on them?

Is the car problem free? The price seems suspiciously low..

Yes. It has 32 service records for only 85k miles, so I think that there aren't too many problems.

I would never give a sport car to a teen, much less something that just actually says sport on it. Sure it's a fun car to drive but IMHO and from my past experiences, it was and still is a bad idea. Teens and first car. Even if the car is pristine at that price. I wouldn't do it. Now if that said teen is mature and beyond that reckless phase then sure, as there be outliers on that bell curve.. Insurance would also be stacked if it's a sport coupe.

My town is safe and really small so chances are I won't be taking many risks. I have also had a whole year of driving experience so I probably would be fine.

It's not really a sports car either. It is a luxury car that is kind of sporty. This is my favorite lexus, but sadly it isn't that popular and is very underrated.

Well, in terms of insurance, here's how it be. Say you got your license rn. And bought this car. The fact that it blatantly has "sport" in the name, the actual F sport model badge I am assuming. That's all insurance needs to look at pretty much, and also it's considered a luxury car. So don't expect it cheap, years don't exactly matter as used bmws and benz are also expensive. Lexus and acura as well kinda fall into this. Until you are 18 with no accidents that plan will then be halved and halved again if you become 21 with said no accidents. (Including getting pulled over as waring's do and will show up on your driving record) I've got 2 points on my license, not to brag but that's like really not good because I was a reckless kid. It stays for 5 years but isn't purged until 10 years or so but also without special and specific exemption that I can get points back on. 3 strike's and I won't be able to drive for a good while. So I've learned my lesson and people will say it took me long enough. Idk what the price average is for where you are but here in cali it is 8 grand per year for a 18 year old for full coverage for a first time driver. What people mention below is if you get a converage that is under your parents wing. That 2-3k. I myself got a stand alone cause I wanted to be independent and thought I already knew all I knew. Mistakes be had on my end. You mentioned one of those companies. In That, the reason being is 30 dollar per month insurance is basically to have insurance in name only. Do not expect them to cover anything less so if something goes wrong. As many others have voiced. Get a quote or 3 and see that works for ya. Won't tell ya not to buy the car but do be warned as ya are a kid haha

that kinds sus

It is but they are allowed to be called insurance for whatever reason. I haven't looked into it too much not have I bothered too but I heard of Freeway insurance is one of the popular ones here in cali for that "insurance by name only"

Your parents must be generous to triple their budget on your first car.

I'm good at convinving. 🙂

wait. How did you become an illustrious member??? Your like 12 years old right?

I thought it was a joke when I read it. You are real lucky man.

As for the car, I'd get a few years older. You can generally find 08 09 models for $8000 where I cam so half the price for only a few years older.

I'm good at convincing Scotty to make me the one and only illustrious member

I know; but the 08-09 models are still like 10k with 140k miles when I checked. Also, if you buy a more expensive car with way higher value, you will basically make that money back when you go to resell it.

Thats of course if you don't rap it around a pole tomorrow on the way to Brooklyn; salvage cars are basically worthless.

I'm surprised the gs350 never got the love it seserved. I mean a 300 hp rwd sports sedan that last forever and is the best looking lexus and still i see people only driving the lexus is250s everwhere...

Yeah its pretty underappreciated

If you take off the F sport and it was a regular GS, and AWD for the stability, it could have been a good car but RWD 300hp $15,000 sports sedan is 1. unsafe for bad drivers, but if you are a good one then I guess no prob? and more importantly 2. insurance through the roof

@kerem I don't and haven't lived in brooklyn since 10 years ago. I live in Ardsley, Ny. It is one of the nicest towns in america and every one drives lexus, acura, infiniti, bmw, audi, and toyotas. My friend used to live in Ardsley and moved to the next town over which is Scarsdale Ny, which is the richest town on the east coast of America. Every teen in my high school drives new cars, most specifically lexus and audi.

the one is awd not rwd that i saw. I think the f sport usually only has awd.

Hmm...
What kind of parent would buy a 16 year old a brand new Audi? Anyways, you already solved most of the problem by getting a used Toyota/Lexus, but whether you are or not, insurance companies see you are a high accident risk client and will charge extra. Check insurance first. Again if you do decide to buy it at least bring a chrisfix check list or scan tool if you won't have a mechanic check it out.

Everyone in my school has brand new cars. I don't know how they can afford it. My senior friend, who has a 2017 lexus gx460 drives the car everywhere and I don't know how he can afford the premium fuel on a car that gets 15mpg. And guess what's funny about the guy? He works in carvel and earns only $14 an hour and he literally owns a mansion and a whole parking lot in it too.

If I needed premium fuel in my car, I would probably buy my gas wholesale and save a lot of money.

Endrit carying 10 gallons worth of gas canisters to History class and then leaves in a Lexus F sport model sports sedan. The dreams...

Don't be silly. I would go home in the bushes and fill them each week. School is only 2 miles away.

I just saw one of your previous messages. No I am not 12 years old, I am going to start driving next year.

I'm kidding. I would just go to the pump and spend the damn money on the gas. Alright see you, I have a date to attend...

I would not advise you to buy that one for your first car. Besides the points that @BruceRee mentioned, your insurance would be high.

It's an 8 year old car. I don't think insurance would be too extreme. I'm only 15 so I wouldn't know..

Would you be able to afford $1500-$2000 in insurance a year? Thats what it is according to google. Definitely get a quote before buying.

That is like robbing you. I mean, come on....

I saw some teen that payed $30 a month for a certain insurance. Do those companies exist?

You wanna drive a luxury car without driving history. It is gonna be expensive. That’s one of the reasons people but cheap cars for their first time drivers.

it has 32 service records if that is what your saying.

He means luxury cars are valuable and insurance companies assume you are a bad driver and will charge $$$$ for insurance. While a cheaper mainstream car would be a lot cheaper to insure

to be clear are you 14 or 15 years old. I am 15 almost 16 and still don't have my permit until July of this year. 3 months until a very interesting day...

I grew up in a really small town and if I was a teenager driving a super fancy car like that I’d get pulled over all the time for profiling. I’m just assuming you might live in a small town too because that price is pretty low

I'm still trying to understand why someone would buy their 16 year old kid a new Audi but I guess we live in a world of insanity these days...

@JohnnyETX It is far from my town. It is all the way in pennsaylvania. I live in ny

@JohnnyETX Where do you live for the police to do that? In my town in NY, like 1/2 of all the teens have really new audi and mercedes convertibles and the police never stops them and they always speed out of control.

Small town on the la/tx border. Had a friend who’s father was wealthy and bought him a new Jeep for his first car. He would get pulled over all the time because the police had nothing better to do. That guy was the nicest kid and the entire police station knew him on a first name basis lol

That's crazy. Your friend would fit in perfectly in my school as the rich jewish kids in my school all have brand new german powerful convertibles or lexus sports cars.

Sorry for mentioning religion, but it was just the stereotype that was prevalent in my town here in Ardsley, NY. Mark Zuckerberg went to my high school for like 2 years so there is the rich smart jewish kids stereotype again.
