Hey Scotty, I got a bit of a silly question here.
i have noticed since my last Transmission fluid change in January (drain and fill/no flushing) now that the weather got dry and better I have started noticing some minor leak on the asphalt. I looked under the car and saw that there is bright red fluid coming off the transmission drain plug. It’s a very slow leak , leaves about 4 droplets while sitting over night. Transmission fluid level is full, no noticeable reduction. I suspect the drain plug was probably overtightened during my last service…
is there anyway I could fix this minor leak until my next transmission oil change ?? Or should I get a new drain bolt and do another drain and fill. I bought a quart of ATF-WS just in case of my fluid level drops below norm, but so far all good.
thank you 🙂 /p>
They probably didn’t replace the little crush washer/gasket on the drain plug. Or as most quickie fluid change places do, lost it. Probably fell off the drain plug. You can get a new plug with gasket, loosen the existing one, then quickly remove it and place your thumb over the hole and then quickly put the new one in. You’ll lose some fluid. Just check dipstick with the car running warmed up and add back what little ya need.
Thank you , I guess this is the best way I suppose. It’s just annoying because I have done the service at the official Toyota/Lexus dealership :/ but oh well it happens I guess
Unfortunately no matter where you take it you are always dealing with people. If mechanic is having a bad day, or has their mind on something else it’s just human nature to affect job performance. Some people can compartmentalize, some can’t. That’s why I do all mine myself. If it messes up then it’s my fault.
Did you try snugging up the plug?
