Lexus TX350 4 cylinder engine ?

Scotty, should I be concerned that the new 2024 Lexus TX 350 only has a 4 cylinder turbo?  This seems like it might be too small an engine for a large SUV. Thanks !

Yeah, I would be concerned.  I also would never buy the first few years of any generation Toyota or Honda product.  Even if they stuck to a naturally-aspirated engine for the TX I would still wait many years until we find out how the new model holds up.

You can expect it to wear out faster than a normal aspirated V6 or V8.

Yes, you should be concerned, but there really isn’t anything we can do about it.  Car makes are being forced to downsize engine and add turbos to compensate, because of emissions regulations.

I think I'd rather buy a Toyota V8 with 100,000 miles on it and an unknown service history than spash out on a new truck with a inline 4 engine and a turbo. Even if I have to replace the engine it would probably work out cheaper in the long run. Say the truck was £15,000 or so and the replacement engine was £10,000 brand new, it's probably still cheaper than a 40,0000+ new SUV.

But that's just me. Plenty of things to go wrong with that route as well.
