Lifter Tap or Piston Slap?
Hey Scotty, I have a 2020 Hyundai Elantra that’s just under 21K miles and there’s a ticking noise that happens when the engine is cold and as it approaches operating temperature it will then become quiet and then start ticking intermittently for another minute or so before finally becoming totally quiet. My last oil change was about 8 months ago when I got the car by the dealer and I went 4,300 miles on it. The noise sounds like it’s coming from the top of the engine.
if you still have warranty, I highly recommend you tell Hyundai about it and take advantage while you still can. They've had to replace a lot of engines.
All under warranty and I work at Hyundai so I’ll be able to get a new engine for free God forbid that’s the case but definitely want to hear what Scotty has to say about this one.
