Hello, I currently own two vehicles and I want to keep the in the best shape for as long as I can. I need your help to give me some advice.

(1st car: 2012 Mazda 3 2.5L Manual Transmission) This car already has 200,000 miles on it. I replaced the serpentine belt, spark plugs and valve cover gasket. With this milage, do you recommend that I change anything internally? Like cams? Or more specifically the timing chain?

(2nd car: 2013 Ford Edge 3.5L) This car has 140,000 and runs like a clock. I replaced the spark plugs and a coil. Everything else is still fine. Unfortunately this engine is the one with that bad design of the water pump. At what milage do you recommend for me to change the water pump before it ruins my engine?

I appreciate all answers 🙏thank you

Mazda...if you haven't done it...Manual trans fluid, and rear differential gear oil.

On the Ford. Since it has the crappy water pump design, it would probably be good idea to be pre-emptive and change it. (Hope you've been squirreling away some $$ for it).  I read that they typically fail between 80-120k miles. You're over that mark, so I'd be watching for any coolant seepage like a hawk. And by design it's a huge job. The pump itself is not expensive, so it's mostly all labor and it take a long time to do. Good Luck

Timing chain on Mazda

Ford I’d change the water pump out now for peace of mind.

If you want to get a good idea of how much life is left in your engines, do a compression test. If the Edge is an auto, I'd go with the Mazda.

You didn't read it right...It wasn't choosing between the two. He owns both vehicles and looking for maintenance advice for both.
