What would be a good daily driver 4x4 work truck hopefully in the 3/4 ton range under 10k?

I'd choose and F250 within the price range and of course get it checked out by mech.  Depending on your location, you might be able to get a 2016 generation one... here you'd have to go with the previous gen to fulfill price range requirement.

Any year to avoid? Diesel vs. Gaasoline?

sorry one more question, I have also been looking 70's F250 highboys and mid 90s f250s, how are these?

Depends on use. As a daily I'd go gas. Unless heavy work/towing/hauling. imo, no, not significant difference between applicable years to you (not enough to worry about). No eco tho for sure.

As for older, they are good, just not as a daily imo and how good depends on ongoing maintenance.

Besure to AVOID FORD's sparkplug spitting out head designs:

Ford Triton engines are spitting out spark plugs like sunflower seeds, but the suits in Detroit act like there isn't any problem. They're wrong. We believe this defect affects the following 2-valve engines: Triton 4.6L V8, 5.4L V8, 6.8L V10 & possibly others.

Fords Most Likely to Experience Spark Plug Blowout

Other Models and Model Years Affected:

Other years of the vehicles listed above that are affected by spark plug blowout in the Ford Triton engine:

I do not see F250 on this list above, is this a problem for them?

I put up this list in case you MAY go with the models I presented but this is NOT a definitive list...you could have a F250 with this engine as well - just informing you that you know in case. The sparkplug are not unscrewing them selves but actually ripping themselves from the head and ruining the thread. Depending on which spark plug it is..some are very hard to get to especially when its in the back of the engine under the cowling. just do your homework so you don't fall into this very expensive trap

Thank you.
