New Subaru STI?

Hi Scotty, greetings from Philly. I've talked here a few times about my 2000 Camaro daily, fantastic car. But I started a new job as an engineer and I'm looking to get a new daily driver. I'm looking for something fun, AWD, reliable, and gets good highway gas millage. I really like the new STI's, great Subaru AWD systems, enough power for a daily commute, fun 6 speed, and the 4cyl should get okay gas millage. I also see these things have great resale value, so if I really don't like it I can always sell it and not lose my shirt. I'd most likely go for a new one, so buying at a dealership. What are your thoughts? Love your videos thanks.

P.S. kinda drive like a maniac

Love all the feedback thanks. But to be clear, Im looking at AWD cars for the occasional snow/ bad weather. Also I dont mind a rough ride, the camaro still has all stock/ warn suspension 😀

The Subaru AWD system is great in the snow/ice as well. We had a huge winter storm in Dallas a couple weeks ago, and I drove my WRX on the snowy/icy roads with no problem at all. It had really good grip and I never got stuck or even slipped.

& if you guys are willing to entertain 1 more question, how much roughly could I expect to get off the sticker price? I know usually cars sell for less than sticker price but I dont know if the STI prices are more firm compared to others cars.

It really depends on the dealership and salesperson. If you go to a big Subaru dealer that gets a lot of STIs in stock regularly, then you will likely have better luck knocking the price off - I'd say up to $1500 or so. But, if you go to a smaller dealer that doesn't get STIs in that often, they may not be willing to wiggle on the price. It never hurt to ask though 🙂

Yeah there are alot of dealerships in the greater Philadelphia area, Ill talk to some dealerships around here. Thank you!

Those are excellent vehicles and are fairly reliable.  And buying new you don’t have to worry about the previous owner driving it hard (as these vehicles are sometimes thrashed by previous owner).

Whenever anyone asks about new, reliable sports cars (or fast cars) the Subaru WRX (STI) is right on that short list. And it is a very short list.

Nothing wrong with an STI, especially one with a warranty. I'd say go for it.

Agree with @DayWalker - they are awesome cars. I own a 2020 WRX and it's fantastic. The AWD system powers you through corners and the overall experience of driving it is thrilling every time I get in. I look forward to driving it all the time even if it's just a short trip. The STI is of course more hard core than the WRX - it's got a stiffer suspension, better breaks, more power, etc. As long as you don't beat on it too much, don't modify the heck out of it, and take care of it, it should be quite reliable.

Lol if you drive like a maniac, a WRX/STI is absolutely perfect for you. Throw on some Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires and you can take corners at any speed you desire 🙂

A brand new version is coming out in sometime in 2022, you might want to wait for  the new one.

The New Golf R is coming out later this year, it provides much of the same in a more mature and refined package , no GIANT wing.   Its also faster than the current STI.

If OP plans to keep for as long as possible, best to avoid first year (or two) of a new generation vehicle and get the bugs worked out. I would apply that advice even to Toyota/Lexus. And the Golf is not good long term, esp. when warranty expires.

I agree, the best play on a golf R would be used 2018/2019 with the 6 year warranty.

@joec The new Golf R is probably still having a Volkswagen's horrible reputation for reliability. I rather get a Subaru STI with a manual.
