Low Oil Pressure Reasons

My 2003 1500 5.3L Chevy Suburban indicated low oil pressure and my sensor gives a reading of P0522.  My Suburban has about 180k on the engine and wondering if there is any way to know exactly what is causing the low oil pressure without replacing the sending unit first.  Thank you.

Sure, you can remove the oil pressure sending unit and put a pressure gauge there to measure the pressure. But then you'd have to buy the gauge. It's a lot cheaper to just buy the sending unit and pray it's that. Because if it's not that then you would have internal wear like a weak oil pump or the engine is just flat worn and the bearings have more clearance and with more clearance the pressure drops meaning that eventually the engine would have to be rebuilt

@scottykilmer Thank you so much for your answer.
