Looking at a 2000 Lexus lx 470 with 150k miles has a bad tranny. Vehicle looks well kept. Is it worth buying and rebuilding or replacing the transmission ?

Not at all. As they age, those V8s will empty your pocket. Yours is 21 years old. Stay away from that car.

I like the LX line. Very nice and very reliable. But I would go with the 4Runner Limited. Just as nice. Just as reliable. Has almost all the same bells and whistles. The ride quality is not as smooth. But considerably cheaper to maintain.
