Major oil leak

Hey Everybody,

My 2004 Honda Civic LX (automatic, 185,000k) started leaking major oil rapidly: as in, full to empty on one 30 minute drive. I bought the UV dye and the majority of it seems to be coming from around the middle of the timing belt cover somewhere. Before pulling the thing off, what should I be looking for around there? Is most likely culprit the camshaft bearing? Anything to look for or keep in mind when getting into this project?

You got a major leak if it's losing all of it's oil in 30 mins. Shouldn't be hard to find that. Inspect every seal.

Thank you, will do.

There is a seal right behind the cam gear that could cause this leak...I know it's happened to me

I think this is the exact problem! It was finger loose when I got to it.

You probably blew a front main seal.  Happens when you don't clean or replace the PCV valve at each oil change.  Blowby pressure builds up in the crankcase and can't get vented back to the intake manifold through the PCV valve.  Be glad it's not he rear main seal.  The front one is pretty easy to replace.
