Manual Transmission, rattle noise after depressing gas pedal while in gear

The car runs fine, all the gears work, the clutch grips fine. So when I'm driving down the road, let's say in 4th gear, and I let off the gas while in gear, I'll hear an annoying grindy/metalic rattle sound, until I press the clutch or shift to neutral. The (noise) almost seems to rattle through the gear shifter, but if I grip the shifter there's no vibration and the noise doesn't change at all.

The other thing is, I can hear the same noise when I rev the engine while parked, the noise starts when the RPM's start coming down and then the noise stops when the rpm's drop low enough.

I replaced the catalytic converter thinking something might be loose in there, the car seems to run a bit quieter now, but the same noise keeps happening on deceleration while in gear. Does this sound like a bearing problem?  I don't think it's a bearing problem because the car runs smoothly without noise while accelerating, or keeping a constant pace with my foot on the gas. Could this be an exhaust issue, that's behind the cat?

No I know it's a transmission is going out it's typical on Subarus. But if you want to figure out it's really easy watch my video finding the source of car noise of Scotty. A device like that can find the source of any noise if it is coming from inside the transmission yeah it'd be the bearings or gears are wearing out inside

I'll be picking up one of these steelman sound devices soon. If it is the transmission and I have to replace it, is there a site you go to for rebuilt transmissions/engines, that you can recommend?

It could be your clutch pressure plate and/or throw out bearing are failing.

I was thinking it could be the throw out bearing. But the clutch is fairly new and I took it to a mechanic who drove it, he didn't think it was the clutch. The noise only sounds at a certain rpm range 3k+ 3.5k when my foots off the gas in gear. It bothers the crap out of me.

You could check out drivetrain.com, they offer rebuilts with warranties.  Maybe you should check out the differential too for noise.  I know what you mean though, these noises bug the hell out of me too.
