I'm looking to buy a new master cylinder for my '77 Nova.
Of my choices, they all stipulate "Power Brakes" and "Includes Reservoir".
What confuses me of these is, that one vendor proclaims their device fits a car "with front disc brakes", as does my '77 Nova.
But another vendor makes no mention of that feature. Is there any difference, then, functionally between these two master cylinders?
Master cylinders for disc brakes have a larger reservoir for the disc section. Master cylinders for drum brakes have residual pressure valves. The original type master cylinder used on a 1977 Nova (and just about all domestic cars at that time) has an integral reservoir.
Be sure to bench bleed the new master cylinder before installation.
@chucktobias Thanks Chuck!
