Low price but fixing the steering could run into some $$$$ especially if you don't do your own repairs. Could be the pump or the steering rack, or both. You'd need a good mechanic to give the car a thorough examination before purchase to see what else may have gone wrong with it after 19 years.

@chucktobias It's definitely still drivable especially at speed without power steering right? I've know people to daily cars without it and they seemed fine the light is on the dash for the power steering as well.

@mystic192 That's up to you. I'd be reluctant to buy a nearly two decade-old car that has an obvious major problem and may well have other issues yet to be determined.

@chucktobias Got it I planned a Pre purchase inspection. I got quite a bit off the price for the power steering issue it's the cheapest one I found nearby like 350 mile radius.

If you got strong arms sure but I wouldn’t recommend it. You can get other decent running cars for $2500. Sure it won’t be a Lexus and it might not be as spacious as the GS and it might be older, but for that price you can still get a car where everything that affects the drivability of the car and other major components all work. If your plan is to fix it, then talk to your mechanic after they check everything else out and see what the problem is and consider if it’s worth it. Otherwise I wouldn’t touch it. If you like the GS cough up a bit more and get one that has no issues.

@BobTheHatKing I see okay I definitely am a fan of the gs 300. I will talk to my mechanic I should add the car is 200 miles from me I'd need to drive it home. I was considering the 06 gs 300 06 is 250 and 06 acura TL the is is high miles 242k. The acura is high too 220k Aldo broken power steering all the listing's near me seem broken. I also heard the 06 TL had transmission issues.

You really can’t find any closer to you that don’t have broken power steering? If the car is 200 miles away you’ll need to find a mechanic in the area to check it out, unless you have a really good relationship with your mechanic and he’s willing to go out there with you. Imo, 200 miles is a long drive without power steering, and could even be dangerous, but also at highway speeds you’ll need power steering a lot less. If you like the IS250 and it doesn’t have issues, I would go with it, but be aware the parts can get expensive at that age and mileage for a Lexus, especially a model like IS (what I mean is, they didn’t make a ton of the IS like they do with ES so there is less aftermarket. ES was also in those years a fancy Camry so lots of parts were interchangeable and there’s a huge aftermarket for Camrys.)

Idk about the TL transmission problems but if you’d like to know more about it start a new topic per forum rules.

@BobTheHatKing okay I may shift focus to the is 250 then, though 245k miles is steep he wants $2800. But the timing with him does not allow me to have a mechanic look at it. He wants to meet 6:30 PM or later.

Remember that it is still a Lexus so with that mileage $2800 isn’t bad but you could try to knock off a few hundred.

@chucktobias BobTheHatKing Got it I will see what I can do thanks for the advice much appreciated.
