I'm looking at a 2005 Mazda tribute s with 131820 miles has 3.0L V6 well taken care of. What do you think about the 3.0L V6?

Under the skin it's a 17-year old Ford Escape. Given its age I'd expect the worst.

This is just anecdotal evidence evidence. My family member had a Mazda Tribute V6 of the same generation.

It is true, the underpinnings of the Tribute are the same as a Ford Escape. It was a collaboration between Ford and Mazda, it wasn’t a simple rebadge.

It’s based on the Ford CD2 platform, which is in turn based on the Mazda GF platform.

The 4 cylinder is a Mazda engine. The v6 is primarily Porsche engineered before selling the design to Ford and before the VW takeover of Porsche.

Anyway, it ran well for the most part with basic maintenance. Up to about 150K miles, if not more.

The only verified problems they had was a leaking coolant reservoir.

The other problem was most likely a clogged catalytic converter. I don’t know for sure, because by the time I asked what was wrong with the car, it was sitting for 4+ years after being given as a hand me down.

Assuming the Mazda Tribute you are looking into checks out, I would consider. I still see a ton of them on the road. Which anecdotally suggests they have some life to them.

Fair warning, it is kinda gas hog. But drove with power and intent.
