Hello. What is the difference between mazda skyactiv engines and regular engines before them? Are they reliable in the long run? What might be the rattle sound cause when started cold? Oil (5w30) level is fine, 60000 miles, rattle disappears when engine slightly warmed up (car driven). No codes or other issues. Thanks

They've got a very high compression ratio and take a little while to fully warm up (i.e. timing is retarded for a few minutes, no biggie, just don't floor a vehicle with a cold engine). They've been around for 8 years and have a good reliability record (which is more than can be said of latest Honda 1.5 liter engine or Toyota's new 8 speed transmission).
