do Mazda vehicles cost more to maintain than Toyota. are Mazda expensive to fix.
I'd say they are very similar in terms of maintenance costs and cost of parts. Also note that Toyota and Mazda have a partnership going on now.
I presume your question is referring to the Mazda company post-Ford era, so later than 2011.
Whether it was with Ford or post-Ford, I still think it's fairly similar in cost to Toyota. I own a 2008 Mazda 3, and it's really inexpensive to maintain honestly. Although I do find it annoying that most of the parts on that car are by Ford lol.
@razmig
How is your Mazda going? Were those older 3s reliable enough? The newer ones like 2015+ have a good reputation as being a favorite among compact cars but I also here only positive about the older generations. Is your an auto or manual?
@kerem
It's still running great at ~190k miles. It has the 5-speed auto (Ford). The engine is running great, but the transmission is starting to shift a bit rough in 4th and 5th gear. I mean it wasn't the greatest transmission in the first place...it feels like a CVT honestly. The fluid and filter change did help somewhat but for the most part it's still going strong! I'd say the transmission is the weak point on these older Mazda's. The Ford built transmissions weren't all that great in my opinion (automatics). The only major thing I've had to do on this car was radiator and coolant hose replacements after the main coolant hose bursted while I was driving on a super hot day lol. But that was only 2 years ago when the car had ~170k. Of course there are some clunks here and there from the suspension, but I don't really care about the noise.
@razmig
So it is chugging along! Mazda has definetly improved from their lower quality Ford/Jatco/Aisin transmission lineup and V6 Ford engines to their Skyactiv drive powertrain.
Anyways thanks for the insight I am going leave this guys comments alone for Joe's sake;)
I'll add this to Mazda's quality. I have a 2012 Mazda3 with 169k miles on it and I've had literally zero problems with it that I didn't do to the car myself. I've used it as a delivery car for 5 years and it takes the abuse very well. Got the 2L Skyactiv-G that ticks along perfectly. The Aisin 6-speed automatic has been reliable, responsive, and spirited considering the Itty bitty horsepower the little N/A 4cyl makes. All in all, it's a fun, dependable car that I've really loved having. Fingers crossed I get another 168k out of it, but I'm pretty happy with what I've gotten.
Mazda is pretty on par with other Japanese manufacturers.
You will eventually change to Toyota.
