Mystery noise on a 2000 Mazda Protege 1.8L 5 speed with 120K miles. For about the past year there has been a 3-5 second long rapid fire clicking noise coming from under the hood that I can barely hear with the window down. It only happens with the A/C on when I begin to coast to a stop in neutral, and holding the clutch down or keeping it in gear somehow prevents it. I changed drive belts, transmission fluid, and spark plugs/wires today for scheduled maintenance, with no changes. The car and A/C work fine otherwise.

Since it only happens with the AC on I would assume the AC clutch is somewhat worn
