Scotty When Buying a Car Should you have a Mechanic check it out, or is the car passing inspection good enough?
An state inspection is only meant to be a bare minimum standard the car needs to pass, so it doesn't kill people when you get on the road. The point of the state inspection is NOT to make sure the vehicle will last a long time.
And State Inspections are "Safety Inspections". They do not check the health of the motor or if it will dump oil on the way out the door.
A state safety/emissions inspection does not tell all the dark tales a particular used car holds. Before you buy any car, spend $100 to $150 for full pre purchase inspection. If the owner or dealership does want you to take the car for inspection from a mechanic of your choice, walk away. Also if you’re looking at a Chevrolet Chevette, type in Toyota or even Chrysler for a better quality product
ok
Depends on your car knowledge and how much your spending on a car. Plus ya gotta find out about seller reputation and car hisstory.
Mechanic of your choice should be doing inspection before you buy, … if a car was, presumably, already inspected previously, … tough, you are buying the car on the advise of your inspector and not a sellers inspector!
F.S.
I have bought Inspection Stickers while my car was in the garage at home. They are a profit margin, ripoff, that inspectors must do quickly to make money. Inspectors make no profit unless they "find" something other than safety problems they can repair while inspecting.
Find a mechanic to inspect the car. Someone not related to the seller.
