Three TOYOTA DEALERSHIPS DISAGREE on maintenance for auto Transmission

Topic starter

2015 Camry XLE, 4 cyl, 6 speed auto, 40,000 miles bought the car used with all maintenance records.

I want the car to last 300,000 miles,  NO I NEED the car to last 300,000 miles. Dealer one says flush trans at 90,000 miles "although some dealers recommend at 60,000 we recommend at 90,000." Second dealers says never need to do anything. Third dealer says flush at 100,000 miles.  You often say "change trans fluid at 30,000 - 40,000 miles"

What should I do.  Enjoy your videos every day. I appreciate your input to settle the disagreement.

Thanks.   All the best,   LRRY O

NEVER Flush. NEVER.

Drain and fill.

Just drain and fill! Fresh ATF is a very cheap assurance that your transmission will last!

I agree with what everyone above said. Also, I would stop taking the car to the dealer for service if I were you - as the car gets older odds are they are going to try and milk you for money and unneeded services. I've had similar experiences with my Toyota with the dealer giving me suspicious advice. You're better off finding a reputable independent mechanic who knows about and has experience with Japanese cars.

Never flush the transmission, flushing can actually cause problems. What you want to do is a simple drain and fill. As for how often, it should say so right in the owners manual. Always listen to the owners manual and not the dealership. The engineers at Toyota know more about your car than the dealership.

It depends who you ask at the dealership. The sales guys don't often get their hands dirty, and it benefits them to bring you in more often.

Ask the guys who actually work on the vehicles, or even someone who tears down the transmissions if you can find one.

The Dealer that wants to make the most money. Its all about service revenue!!

Drain and Fill.  I’d switch every 30-40k if you want it to last as long as possible.  Oil is cheap (relatively speaking) but transmission repair/replacement is not.  That’s what I do on my vehicles even though my owners manual has the intervals spaced very far apart.

I would go for the 30K drain and fill, I would also ask an independent transmission shop for their opinion as well. There is never an option to upgrade to a high quality CVT transmission from JATCO
