Hi im 25 years old in Houston. I just bought a 1986 mercedes 560sl as a weekend toy. I listen to what you said and did my homework on the car. Ofcourse this is when mercedes was good. I know the major weak spots such as the timing chain and rust, what are other things to look out on these cars? Thanks
Put a specific description of the problem in your titles please ,as I have done for you. Thanks.
Well of course the main thing on that is age. It is so old. You have to worry about rust. You have to worry about rubber parts going bad and leaking brake seals going bad. Hopefully it's just a toy you want to play around with. You certainly can't use it as an everyday driver
Very well made car. Not a lot of inherent flaws. But like @scottykilmer says, it's old, so anything can become a problem.

- Take a look at Mercedes Source ( https://mercedessource.com/). I think it is still run by a guy in Bellingham, WA (or his family) who knows those classic Mercedes inside and out. He sells parts and repair kits for a number of common problems; help you fix some things yourself.
- Make friends with a reputable local independent German Car specialist. They usually name their shop "Autohaus" or "Motorwerks" or something like that. Find a good one who can fix the things you can't on your own.
Good luck!
