my truck is a 2001 f150 with a 5.4 L 4 door 4 wheel drive with 130,000 miles. I use it to pull my toys (2000 lbs trailer with up to 5000 lbs of toys on it)
not sure of the rear end gear ratio. It does not have a tow package.
I pull with overdrive turned off. Is that necessary.

It is recommended, especially if you are towing up hills a lot.

If you’re towing heavy keep it off. If you’re on a straightaway and you’re not towing much eh I don’t really think it would hurt the transmission or anything.
