What are the best options for mid-sized SUV’s (ford escape, RAV 4, CR-V, etc) 2015 and newer that I could get under $30K? Still looking for new vehicles after getting my ‘07 Escape totaled, been looking at trucks but would like to look at SUV options as well. Thanks!

I realize I only said mid-sized and then included compact ones like a dummy, lol. Compact and mid-sized recommendations welcome! My bad

Do you need a SUV/truck or will a sedan better suit your requirements?

Would prefer a Compact SUV, Mid-sized SUV or Mid-sized truck. Don’t want to be sitting on the ground in a sedan and would like the storage space of an SUV or small truck.

The SUVs that you mentioned are compact SUVs. Do you want a compact SUV or midsize SUV?

I’ll take recommendations for both! I don’t know how I managed to forget to ask for compact AND Mid-sized recommendations.

Just trying to weigh my options in each category and get some recommendations for each. Not sure which size I’m going with quite yet.

The only SUV’s I would consider are made by these companies: Toyota, Honda, Mazda, Subaru.  There are so many to list and obviously each model may have their nuances that take them out of the running.  But generally speaking, I would stick to these 4 brands.

Generally speaking, the RAV4 and CRV are my top choices. I drive both regularly, both 2015’s.  They aren’t mine, but I drive them enough and know enough about them where I feel like they are.  The RAV4 with 50K+ Miles. And the CRV with 100K+ Miles.  With mostly just basic maintenance.

Nothing major or even minor with the RAV4 over the last 7 years.  I suspect we may need to change out the PCV valve soon, but there are no signs of needing to do so yet.

Only minor things with the CRV, already went through 2 batteries. It lives in a hotter climate, so that may be the culprit. And the rear hatch latch electronic mechanism needed to be replaced.

You mention Mazda, I’ve been very interested in the CX-5’s but I just don’t know much about them. Obviously the big recommendations are the CR-v’s or RAV4’s…but how would a Mazda match up to those?

In my objective view in terms of reliability, the RAV4 or CRV.

In my own personal view, I actually like the Mazda CX-5 overall versus the RAV4 and CRV. I think they hit the mark in both design and performance, and potentially reliability.

Mazda has gotten better ever since they distanced themselves with Ford. I have two friends with the CX5, one with the first generation and one with the second generation. And both loved them and so far haven’t had any problems with them.

Technically, the RAV4, CRV, and CX5 are all compact SUV’s, not midsized. Although they border they lower edge of midsize.

CR-V/RAV4, Highlander/Pilot, Tacoma 4cyl.

All the best!

Get a brand-new Toyota Corolla Cross. An LE trim will run you about $27K.

I was considering that! Haven’t gotten a chance to get out and test drive yet but that was on the top of my list!
