  • My 2010 Mazda3 with 102000 miles, has a tendency to not turn over when I shut it off immediately after starting it cold. I don’t do it often because of this occasion problem. It happened recently when the temperature was -7 with a full tank of gas. I’m concerned about the life of my fuel pump. I don’t let the gas get lower then a 1/4 tank either since this has happened more often. Like once every other month or so. Should I just ride it out until I’m ready for a new vehicle or should I reluctantly see a mechanic? Im very good about keep fluid Maintaince up so I have no engine problems aside from this anomaly.

If you feel like you can ride it out, I would. Fuel pumps aren't exactly cheap. Now you can check small things yourself like the fuel filter, spark plugs, etc. just to make sure all is well in those areas. But if so, you probably would want to pressure test the fuel pump to see if it is sending the right amount of fuel through the line.
