Hi ,
I hope you can help.
Where exactly is the glow plug relay located and where exactly is the glow plug fuse located on a mk1 1984 VW Jetta turbo diesel.
I saw a fuse on the fire wall where the manual says the plug fuse should be but, the fuse doesn't look anything like the fuse that the supplier sent me says is the right one for the car. My fuse looks like a regular 2 spade, it's red and has a clear plastic top. The fuse I was sent is only a small piece of metal with slots at the ends for screws.
I was told the relay is near the fuse panel but, not on the main fuse panel. So, I still don't know where it is or, what fuse to look for. I got a new fuse but, it has no number on the end.
The problem is that when I turn the key, the glow plug light blips on for a fraction of a second and goes out. The glow plugs evidently don't heat because the engine just cranks and cranks but won't start. Very rarely the light operates as normal but, that stopped happening now.
Do you think If I change the relay that will fix the problem? And if I change the fuse (when I can find it) that will fix it too? Could the relay simply be loose?
I'd sure appreciate the help soon.
Thanks very much, Jon Hoffman
Unfortunately my dad has system doesn't include that and I've never worked on that year but the really could fix it go to a Volkswagen dealer parts department they can sell you one and show you on the computer exactly where it's located
